24-hour water emergencies
Water emergencies generate the most anxiety and the most panic pricing. Knowing what to do in the first five minutes limits both the damage and the bill.
Close the main shutoff first
Every home has a general valve, usually by the meter or under the kitchen sink: closing it stops the damage until help arrives. Locate it now, not when the ceiling bubbles.
Emergency rates, upfront
Ask for the call-out cost and minimum working hour before accepting the visit: holidays and night hours multiply the rate. A serious professional says it on the phone without hedging.
Community and insurance
If water reaches the neighbor below or comes from common areas, alert the building president or property manager: many interventions are paid by the community or by home insurance.
